IN WHAT WAY DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT DEVELOP FORM AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
We had to develop many of our original ideas because of how ambitious our film is. It became clear that some of the shots and locations we had planned to use, wasn’t practical enough as we struggled with finding specific locations available for us. Furthermore, with the limit of actors available for us to take to the locations, we had to really plan each scene to effectively use the characters that we had.

Firstly, we had to modify the original shooting script. We knew the shots we wanted to keep however, as said above many had to be modified if not taken out. An example of this is shot 19, where Clary brings the cup up to her mouth, although this would have been a great shot the bad quality (due to the limit of light on the subject) and shakiness (from free hand filming) distorted the overall appearance so instead we decided to take a side mid shot of this action. In addition, another example would be the shot 22, had to be changed, where more patients were shown in a lounge, due to the limit of actors and availability of a location that was big enough and looked like a mental institute. Instead we exaggerated the corridor scene where she would walk down very slowly and distressed, creating a more isolated and uncomfortable scene, which I believe worked very effectively towards the damaged and insecure portrayal of our main character. We were also able to use more editing and a tilt within the shot to enhance the atmosphere and representation (of the main character) that was listed above.

UPDATED SHOOTING SCRIPT
Once we had all the shots that we wanted, we found that the original shooting script was too chronological and needed to be broken up and mashed up more. This lead to much experimenting with transitions, orders and length of each clip. I believe that the final product presents the narrative of our story with more excitement and suspense because of the addition of more fast pace cuts and jump cuts that create an edger and more sophisticated trailer. This makes our audience more involved and intrigued by the complexities of our story.

THESE IMAGES ARE SPECIFIC SCENES FROM THE TRAILER THAT PRESENT CLARY, THE MAIN CHARACTER, USING HER POWERS.

The edits that we used within our trailer were challenging and sometimes compromised by the lack of technology. However, throughout creating this trailer our editing has developed dramatically as even though some edits were too hard for us to complete, we did manage to develop the majority of our shots effectively. One of the edits we changed was the representation of the powers because originally we wanted to use the ‘soul effect’ better known from Dr Strange, was very complex and we managed to get half way through the edit before realising that a simulator on Premier Pro wasn’t as advanced enough to isolate and fade the ‘soul’ of the characters when Clary potentially throws them back with her telekinetic powers. Instead we decided to use a levitation edit, which was still a difficult edit but it did clearly show Clary’s powers better and presented a cleaner edit to the ‘soul effect’ edit. Please note that we did use YouTube tutorials to help us produce both edits, they shall be linked below:
Many YouTube tutorials were used for inspiring and guiding us through the editing process as they enabled us to develop our skills and enhance the quality of not only the shots but the story we were trying to get across through the shots.
THIS IS THE TUTORIAL I FOUND ON YOUTUBE THAT EXPLAINED HOW TO CREATE THE SOU EFFECT IN AFTER EFFECTS. OBVIOUSLY I COULDN'T ACHIEVE THIS EDIT, BUT I DID TEACH ME SOME USEFUL TIPS WHEN EDITING THAT I CONTINUED TO USE ON OTHER EDITS.

The music development was the hardest part of creating our trailer. This was because we found it hard to build up a soundtrack that would highlight the high action as well as the distortion we wanted to present through our trailer. After much experimenting with loops on GarageBand, we decide that in order to get this across we had to create two different sounds that will present the different atmospheres. The high action soundtrack was much easier to create as we had many loops to choose from and build upon within GarageBand to create and exciting and thrilling sound to complement the action packed scenes. We used many similar heavy beats as to keep the tracks merging smoothly, with less dramatic changes.
The distorted and more sinister soundtrack was complex to build up because of the different layers and interesting loops we needed. We actually came across a track by Stephen Scott that presented the uncomfortable and intense atmosphere we wanted. However, because it was a softer beat to the action soundtrack, we had to build upon the section of Stephen’s track that we had selected for our scene. The build-up of layers really enhanced the mentally insecure portrayal of our main character (Clary) because we used voiceover of repeated words, that are the voices in Clary’s head. The gradual increase in the whispered words continue to a blur of whispered voiceover, leaves a great transition for the two soundtracks to merge and to continue the soundtrack smoothly.
